  • What is a Quinq?

A Quinq (pronounced "kwink") is someone who graduated from Vanderbilt 50 or more years ago. The Class of 1976 will be inducted into the Quinq Society at the Quinq Brunch on Sunday, October 18. The term Quinq is a shortened form of the Latin word "quinquaginta" (50) or "quinquagenary" (50th anniversary). The name Quinq originated from three alumni from the Classes of 1887, 1897 and 1892 who were trained in the classics. They chose this name to honor alumni who have celebrated the 50th anniversary of their graduation from Vanderbilt University.

For details about 50th Reunion at Commencement see the Class of 1976 page.

  • What is a Mini Reunion?

Mini Reunions are alumni social gatherings during Reunion Weekend that are planned for and by alumni. They are a wonderful way to reunite with friends who made your college experience memorable. Past Mini Reunions have been organized around athletics, majors, regions, student associations, or other shared experiences.

When should I have a Mini Reunion? We recommend Thursday afternoon before the welcome event, Friday late afternoon before the Class Party, or Sunday morning, before the farewell brunch. For more information about planning a Mini Reunion email the Reunion Office at reunion@vanderbilt.edu.

RIISF FAQ

  • What is RIISF?

The Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund is an initiative created especially for this year's Reunion classes, ending in -1 or -6, and supports Opportunity Vanderbilt, the University’s bold commitment to our extraordinary students. Opportunity Vanderbilt meets 100% of demonstrated financial need without loans, providing students the ability to graduate debt-free and focus on their ambitions and personal growth.

This year, each class has goals to raise current use dollars in honor of your Reunion that will go toward the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund. This fund is designed for immediate use, helping students right away where the need is greatest!

  • Why is the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship important?

The Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund provides immediate funding to support students through Opportunity Vanderbilt, the University’s commitment to help students with demonstrated financial need pay for college and graduate debt-free. This is a short-term fundraising campaign for alumni across Reunion classes ending in –1 and -6 to increase support for students entering in Fall 2027. While you can choose to give to many areas across the university, this special campaign honors our Reunion years and focuses on making an immediate difference in students' lives. Additionally, the scholarship will be awarded in our Reunion Classes’ honor!

  • Is this fund an endowment?

No, this fund is not an endowment. Every gift made to the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund will be awarded to students beginning in Fall 2027, rather than being invested in the University endowment, as most scholarship funds are.

Immediate impact scholarships play a key role in this effort. Unlike endowed scholarships, these funds are not invested for long-term growth. Instead, they are awarded directly to students the following academic year. In this case, scholarships raised will support students beginning in Fall 2027. While endowment-based scholarships are the lifeblood of Opportunity Vanderbilt and sustain this commitment long term, this scholarship fund gives us a meaningful way to make a difference now and honor our Reunion with purpose.

  • How is the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund different from Opportunity Vanderbilt?

The Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund is a special, time-limited initiative originally created for Reunion 2025. It provides current-use dollars that will support students beginning in Fall 2027.

Opportunity Vanderbilt is the University’s broader, ongoing financial aid program that meets 100% of demonstrated need without loans. Opportunity Vanderbilt provides comprehensive financial aid to cover tuition and living expenses. Gifts to the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund directly support Opportunity Vanderbilt but are designed to be used immediately, making a quick and meaningful difference for today’s students.

Additionally, Vanderbilt meets 100 percent of demonstrated financial need, which enables students to graduate without debt. While some families may still choose to take out loans outside of our financial aid process, Opportunity Vanderbilt has significantly reduced the number of students graduating with debt. Last year, fewer than 350 students graduated with any debt.

  • Is the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund for my class only?

The Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund is a pooled effort that allows all classes celebrating a Reunion in 2026 to raise money for immediate student support. It’s a unique opportunity for our -1 and -6 Reunion classes to come together and make a direct, meaningful impact on current Vanderbilt students.

  • I made a gift already for this year. Can you count that gift toward the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund and toward the goal for my class?

To count toward the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund, gifts must be made during the four-week campaign window and directed specifically to this fund. While only these gifts will count toward the campaign totals, we are deeply grateful for your support at any time and to any area of Vanderbilt.

  • Can my previous gift to Opportunity Vanderbilt be counted for this campaign?

Only gifts made in the four-week window and directed to the Reunion 2026 Immediate Impact Scholarship Fund will be counted for the campaign.

  • How can I give to RIISF?
