Environmental issues are among the most polarized in an increasingly polarized society. How can we teach environmental law in a way that enables students to think critically and reaches students across the political spectrum? How can we analyze environmental problems and develop viable new measures in the face of a polarized, gridlocked system?
This discussion will explore the cutting-edge research underway at Vanderbilt in law, policy, and social science that explores the psychology of polarization, promising new ways to bypass polarization, and the ways environmental lawyers, managers, and advocates can succeed in a polarized era.

Antitrust policy is at an inflection point, with thinkers like Professor Lina Khan, Chair of the FTC, pursuing a regulatory agenda that runs contrary to the view that has prevailed among policymakers for over forty years: that antitrust exists to protect consumers from high prices and that markets are largely self-correcting. Professor Allensworth will explain the current crisis of identity in antitrust law, describe its legal and ideological origins, and identify the often-overlooked role that courts and legal precedent must play in shaping antitrust law’s next equilibrium.
